The Semi-Automatic Rifle is a traditional, three-position technical competition for individuals, focused on precision shooting from semi-automatic rifles of caliber 5.45 to 8 mm at a distance of 100 m. Competitors complete shooting stages of 10 rounds in three shooting positions – prone, standing, and kneeling. The 135P target – an exposed prone figure with scoring rings – is used during the competition.
The competition builds on matches with the vz. 58 semi-automatic rifle, a civilian version of the Vz. 58 assault rifle, which served as the standard firearm of the Czechoslovak Army from the late 1960s and later also the Slovak Armed Forces.
After expanding the competition to include other types of semi-automatic rifles, mostly those derived from military platforms introduced in the armories of NATO countries, the competition now has three disciplines: Standard 58, Modified 58, and Open.
